Biological Illustrations

Student Project

The illustrations here were made for a science illustration course I took at my university. All of the images were drawn free-hand on 11" x 14" Bristol paper. The two digital images (the moth and the mushroom) were drawn using a tablet and printed onto card stock.

Initial sketches were drawn with the specimen present during laboratory sessions, and finished separately using reference photos of the specimen. During classes we learned broad anatomy of the subjects that was then applied during labs and the finalization of illustrations. Once completed, the images were scanned for text formatting. The callouts were planned into the illustrations, but the text was typed up and traced onto the images by hand.

I would like to acknowledge and thank  Dr. Jennifer Landin, the professor of the course, who inspired and pushed me to produce the pieces shown here.
